Working with Cheryl...

"When I met Cheryl during my breastfeeding journey, I was so lost. I felt like I was failing and did not know what was wrong. She led me to the right professionals to diagnose my son with tongue-tie and torticollis. Cheryl was available whenever this mama was panicking, even over the weekends. She met with me after my son's tie was released and helped us establish a better latch. Cheryl was with us every step of the journey and helped me, not only meet my breastfeeding goals, but exceed them.

I can't sing her praises enough!"

I began my career as a Walt Disney World Cast Member while attending the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida for undergraduate studies in Psychology, Nutrition and Nursing. While working for Disney, I developed a deep love of working with families, especially children, and embraced Disney's values of superior customer service and high standards in business practices. Working for Disney, allowed me to work with children and families while also pursuing my love of music and entertainment.

After graduating nursing school, I worked as a medical-surgical nurse at one of the nation's largest research hospitals. Following the unexpected stillbirth of my first child, I transitioned to maternal-fetal medicine, specializing in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Neonatology & Pediatrics. I've been very fortunate to receive diverse, multidisciplinary training and to have worked in many areas of OBGYN and Pediatric nursing including: Postpartum, Labor & Delivery, NICU, PICU, Antepartum, Prenatal, Bereavement, Pediatrics, Research, Legal Nurse Consulting and Education. I've been working with Triangle area families since 2006 and officially became an IBCLC in 2012. While living in North Carolina, I developed and authored prenatal and postpartum education programs for Duke University Healthcare System, WakeMed Health & Hospitals and Cornerstone Pediatrics, have had the honor of being a speaker at the Triangle Breastfeeding Alliance's Annual Conference, contributed to local and national breastfeeding research studies, and led the largest breastfeeding support group in the Triangle for over 5 years.

I've had the pleasure of serving my community as a Lactation Consultant in various lactation settings including: In & Outpatient clinics/hospital,  Level 4 NICU, Pediatric Practice, Dental Office, Level 2 NICU, Birth & Family Education Department and Private Practice. I have had the immense honor of working and training with some of the best and brightest lactation mentors in the business including: Alison Hazelbaker, PhD, IBCLC, FILCA, CST-T, RCST, PPNE , Liz Brooks, JD, IBCLC, FILCA and Catherine Watson Genna BS, IBCLC.

I'm the mother of an awesome 11 year old boy, who breastfed for over 2 years after overcoming some pretty big challenges! He is my reason. Each woman's journey through motherhood is her own. I love celebrating the unique bond you and your baby share while promoting a positive, encouraging environment and providing compassionate, individualized care. Being in private practice allows me the freedom to work closely with each breastfeeding couplet without the restrictions often seen in hospitals, clinics and Pediatrician's offices. My real-life, modern, goal-focused, positive, evidence-based approach to lactation practice is for any mom who is ready to use science and compassion to reach her breastfeeding goals! I'd love to help you.
